WAYFARER ADDS VALUE THROUGH PAYPOINT

Fifty thousand users of Wayfarer smart card technology in the Edinburgh area will soon be able to add value to their cards through PayPoint terminals.

Lothian Buses, which records around 500,000 smart card transactions each week, has reached agreement with the PayPoint retail payment network to enable passengers to re-charge their smart cards through new enhanced terminals.

“We have worked closely with PayPoint to develop the necessary security software that enables passengers to use 150 terminals to re-charge their Lothian smart cards,” says Wayfarer’s Project Manager Paul Leahy.

Comments Steve Ryan, of Lothian Buses: “The development significantly enhances the flexibility of smart card use in the Edinburgh area and is expected to lead to still greater take-up of smart card technology. Our aim is to make travel as accessible as possible for our customers and this is another important development in supporting that objective.”

PayPoint’s Business Development Director, Tim Watkin-Rees, said of the agreement: “We are particularly pleased to be partnering Wayfarer in this initiative because it underlines PayPoint’s leading position in payment technology innovation.”

PayPoint is the UK's leading branded national network for collecting payments 'over the counter'.

There are already over 11,000 PayPoint outlets located in newsagents, convenience stores, supermarkets, forecourts and off licences across the UK. All are conveniently located close to customers' homes and many outlets are open for extended hours.
