FIVE new transport schemes available through PayPoint retailers

PayPoint, the UK’s leading branded payments network, has launched a raft of new bus ticketing schemes that will bring additional business into PayPoint retailers in many parts of the country.

Travellers on System One in the Greater Manchester area will be able to buy Day Saver tickets for one adult and one child (16 and under), and Group Day Saver tickets for two adults and up to three children (16 and under), at PayPoint stores from October. This is the second day ticket scheme to be introduced by PayPoint in a few months.

Meanwhile, in Scotland, First in Glasgow, the largest operator in the Greater Glasgow area, has launched three versions of its new Flexi-10 ‘carnet tickets’ – the First Flexi-10 CITY, Flexi-10 LOCAL and First Flexi-10 NETWORK – all of which are valid for ten separate journeys over six months.

First West & North Yorkshire (formerly First North) has introduced First Week Leeds Green Zone and First Week West Yorkshire travel tickets, while First Cymru, the biggest operator in Wales, has joined forces with PayPoint to enable customers to buy FirstMonth and, in some cases, FirstWeek tickets from their local PayPoint at the same time as picking up a loaf of bread, a pint of milk or their lunch to take away.

Lastly, Translink in Northern Ireland has launched a new customer service that enables Translink smartcard customers to top up both Smartlink and iLink travel cards at PayPoint’s 900 retailers in Northern Ireland, making it much easier for all Smartlink and iLink customers to add journeys and travel to their cards.

“Bus operators across the country are increasingly encouraging their customers to purchase their tickets off-bus in advance, and PayPoint retailers are ideally placed to benefit from this trend,” said Mike Igoe, Retail Strategy Director at PayPoint.

“The fact that we are announcing five such schemes, in all four countries that make up the United Kingdom, show just how widespread this trend has become. And these are in addition to the dozens of other ticketing schemes offered by PayPoint retailers around the country, including for the major transport groups.

“Although initially covering weekly, monthly and, sometimes, longer periods, we’re also now seeing operators making single use and carnet style tickets available through the PayPoint network. This trend can only be good news for PayPoint retailers, who are benefitting from increased footfall from new customers who previously might not have shopped in the store, and increased sales as these customers often make unplanned purchases in the store.”
