PUDSEY BEAR TO VISIT PAYPOINT RETAILERS SUPPORTING BBC CHILDREN IN NEED
11 October 2010

PayPoint HQ staff in virtual cycle ride from Lands End to John O’Groats

PayPoint, the UK’s leading branded payments network, is supporting BBC Children in Need once again this year, enabling the public to make cash donations at PayPoint retailers. Customers who raise funds through their own events are able to donate through the PayPoint terminal.

As well as providing another reason for people to visit their local store, PayPoint has also launched a campaign to enable retailers to make a real difference to the lives of disadvantaged children right here in the UK by raising cash themselves, ensuring even more money for Pudsey.

PayPoint retailers who want to participate will be provided with an A3 poster and a collection box for customers to give any spare change as they shop, along with other fundraising ideas.

Stores raising at least £100 in their collection box will go into a prize draw for a visit from Pudsey, the much-loved BBC Children in Need mascot,
along with help to make the most of the visit in the local press.

PayPoint Head Office staff are joining in the fun by taking part in a ‘virtual’ cycle ride from Lands End to John O’Groats and hope to raise £10,000. At least 90 people have pledged to ‘cycle’ 10 miles each at home, at the gym and even on the road to cover the 902 miles.

Mike Igoe, Retail Strategy Director at PayPoint, said: “Last year, PayPoint retailers made a fabulous effort and collected thousands of pounds for BBC Children in Need. This year, we want to do better by involving our retailers and our own staff in their own fund-raising activities.

“It’s easy and convenient for people to donate at PayPoint outlets because of their long opening hours and locations in the heart of their communities. It’s also easy for retailers to let their customers know they can donate in their store as we’re sending a free poster to all 22,000 PayPoint retailers.

“Hopefully, this will mean that even more money will be raised for BBC Children in Need this year.”

The BBC Children in Need Appeal takes place on Friday, 19 November 2010.
