NEW LINK CASH MACHINE FOR LICENSED SECTOR LAUNCHED BY RETAIL PAYMENT NETWORK BRAND LEADER

PayPoint, the UK’s premier electronic network for bill payment, mobile top-ups and ATMs in convenience retail outlets has chosen Pub & Bar 2004 to launch the extension of its LINK cash dispenser (ATM) products to the licensed sector. Visitors will be able to see and try its reliable and good-looking NCR EasyPoint 53 self-fill machines on the PayPoint stand (F114).

Research proves that installing ATMs in pubs, bars, clubs or other leisure venues increases customer spending. Up to 40% of cash withdrawn from ATMs is spent in the same location, and those customers spend 25% more than the average. (Source: NCR). Also, the availability of cash on site is more likely to keep customers on the same premises for longer. If customers have to go out to a bank machine or other ATM location to top up their cash, they may not return.

Although new to the pub, club, bar and leisure scene, PayPoint’s retail network operating pedigree offers benefits that are unique amongst ATM providers in the licensed sector. PayPoint’s proven capability since 1997 in the efficient management and smooth operation of an electronic network covering over 11,000 outlets serving up to 5 million customers a week means that publicans and managers installing PayPoint ATMs are guaranteed the highest standards of technical reliability, back-office efficiency and operator support.

Site owners earn £1 for every withdrawal from PayPoint ATMs and these earnings are credited to their bank accounts each week. The self-fill machines can also help to save money by permitting the recycling of takings, thereby reducing bank deposit charges. They are also easy to empty, reducing the risk of theft at night.

Point of sale materials, training, installation and on-going technical support via a 7-day call centre are all provided free of charge for the ATMs, which form part of the LINK network.

PayPoint’s specially equipped cash machines, when purchased outright, may qualify for tax relief of up to 40 per cent, potentially reducing the cost of each unit from £2,995 to £1,797. A provision in last year’s Budget allows businesses to write off the cost of buying the ATMs against their profits because PayPoint cash machines incorporate a PC component in the form of a Pentium processor chip.

The tax break stems from last year’s Budget, when Chancellor Gordon Brown extended the scope of 100 per cent first year capital allowances for IT to businesses with annual turnovers of less than £2.8m, assets of less than £1.4m and fewer than 50 employees. It can be claimed under the ‘Items acquired for use elsewhere’ heading of the Plant and Machinery Section of the self-assessment claim form. Details can be found on the Inland Revenue Help Sheet IR22 (Page 6) or the Inland Revenue website www.inlandrevenue.gov.uk.

PayPoint’s LINK ATMs will be on show for demonstration on its Stand F114 at the Pub & Bar Show where visitors will be able to discuss terms and benefits with the ATM sales team.
