PAYPOINT.NET LAUNCHES FRAUDGUARD 4 AS STANDALONE RISK MANAGEMENT PRODUCT
19 October 2010

FraudGuard 4 helps online businesses manage ID theft, manage exposure to global fraud risks and create bespoke fraud tools

Prevention of online fraud has taken a leap forward with the latest enhancements to FraudGuard, the market leading e-commerce risk management platform from PayPoint.net.

FraudGuard has gained a loyal following among clients who enjoy the benefits of its powerful and highly flexible real-time functionality, allied with quick and intuitive webbased configuration and reporting. The enhanced FraudGuard 4 is designed to allow businesses to quickly deploy controls which promote safe acceptance of revenue whilst
properly targeting areas of fraud according to desired risk. The service is available immediately for all new and existing PayPoint.net clients.

In this latest release, businesses can enjoy the efficiency of multi-level fraud screening, tackle a range of abuses with more complex velocity controls, isolate fraud with identity morphing detection and deploy these controls around specific operational challenges using advanced scheduling. FraudGuard 4 also features interactive world mapping, which provides clear visual representation of territory management configured via the software. And for the first time, the product is now available standalone – meaning that businesses can adopt these services to manage payments processed anywhere.

The core product’s new capabilities include:

Multi-level fraud screening – every card transaction is assessed and scored to help businesses determine which payments are accepted automatically, which are declined and which are flagged for review. This capability ensures that a business can verify and process legitimate transactions without delay, delivering a seamless customer experience.
Identity morphing and keying analysis – businesses can track possible ID theft by tracking re-use or mis-use of a card, IP address, email address or billing address in cases where one or more of the criteria has changed across multiple
transactions. Using proven fraud algorithms, the name and email analysis feature also assesses whether the names and email addresses given are likely to be fraudulent.
Custom velocity controls – businesses can set the maximum number of attempts from a card, IP address, email address or billing address in their choice of time frame before a transaction is declined.
Blacklisting and whitelisting – for the first time, businesses can blacklist or whitelist customers based on their email address, billing address and postcode – in addition to card number and IP address.

The premium version of FraudGuard 4 includes the following additional features:

Advanced scheduling – enables rules to be configured to operate only on certain days of the week, hour ranges or on particular days. As a result, merchants can precision-target their fraud detection rules.
Advanced velocity controls – enable the creation of specific risk profiles to target activity by a range of criteria and time periods, for example, identifying ‘burst’ activity from a particular IP address over a few minutes, or sustained activity from spam email over several days.
New customer differentiation – allows risk profiles to tell the difference between new and existing customers. This is particularly important for gaming providers, who often apply stricter criteria to new customers.
Automated capture by rule – FraudGuard 4 offers sophisticated ‘auto-capture’ settings which enable businesses to ensure certain transaction types – for example, high value transactions – are accepted without delay. This means that
a business can manage risk and cashflow from within the same system.
Watch transactions – transactions matching particular profiles can be tracked in real-time, so businesses can discreetly track suspicious activity.

“Fraud poses one of the greatest risks to doing business online – in the first six months of last year, card-not-present fraud in the UK stood at £134 million,” explains Michael Norton, managing director, PayPoint.net. “If a fraudulent transaction takes place, not only do businesses lose out on the transaction, they may also be subject to fines, or
even blacklisting by the card issuers. However, managing fraud can be time intensive, costly and, at times, inaccurate – 70% of genuine transactions are actually blocked unnecessarily due to the stringent rules of a businesses risk management solution. Risk is ever-changing, which is why we’ve designed FraudGuard 4 to be flexible enough to
help merchants tailor their risk profiles to the needs of their business.

“And, now that it’s available as a standalone service, any business can manage online payments processed anywhere in the world, regardless of whether they’re a PayPoint.net customer.”

Motie Bring, Head of Transaction Services of PKR, says: “As a leading online gaming provider, the ability to accept or deny transactions immediately is vital to our business. Our customers are using a real-time service so we have to make quick decisions as to whether payments are genuine or not and, as we deal with a high volume of transactions
on a daily basis, we rely on FraudGuard 4 to automate the decision making as far as possible, while minimising our exposure to risk. FraudGuard’s flexibility in assessing risk helps us actually to accept more payments and improve our service to customers.”

Pricing and availability
The FraudGuard 4 ‘core’ product is available immediately to all PayPoint.net customers. FraudGuard 4 Premium is available for a monthly fee to PayPoint.net customers and users of other payment platforms.
