Results from the 2006 BMRB Omnibus survey carried out in October show that PayPoint is the UK’s most recognised payment collection brand and that as a trusted method to pay bills, PayPoint has a clear lead over any other payment network and is the only credible alternative to the Post Office.
Almost 1 in 5 people polled in the independent survey named PayPoint as a way to pay bills over the counter whereas only 2.6% could name the nearest competitor. When prompted, 60% said they had heard of PayPoint, a significant improvement on last year’s figures.
The impact of the network itself and the new signage seen across the UK was confirmed when 53.5% of people questioned said they’d heard about PayPoint from seeing it in a shop, compared to 11% who recognised it from TV or radio, 3.6% from press advertising, and 11% who named it by seeing the logo on household bills.
19% said they had used PayPoint to pay bills in the last 12 months with only 2% using the nearest competitor for the same service.
Mike Igoe, PayPoint’s Retail Director commented:
“PayPoint is a fast-growing business and these results from the BMRB Omnibus reflect that. Customer awareness is growing annually as PayPoint expands and we’re delighted to see that trend.
The combination of our strong retail coverage and our clear branding is a major factor in driving greater awareness of our services drawing more and more customers into our retail partners’ shops. Last week over 8 million payments were made through the service. We would like to thank all our retailers for their contribution to this exceptional progress. The results show that PayPoint is an increasingly well-recognised brand and has made significant gains over the competition and we’re committed to improving the service in order to drive footfall into stores with PayPoint terminals.”

Notes to Editor:
PayPoint is a leading payment collection network of over 15,000 outlets used, primarily, for the cash payment of bills and services and prepayments for mobile telephones and energy meters.
PayPoint began trading in 1996 and initially collected payments through its network of retail agents for its founder client investors, who included British Gas, BT, BBC TV Licensing, London Electricity (now part of EDF Energy) and four water companies.
It now has more than 800 clients including many of the UK and Ireland’s major energy, cable, mobile and fixed line telephony companies. Its blue chip client list also extends to numerous water companies, local authorities and housing associations and a growing transport and travel base.
PayPoint listed on the London Stock Exchange in September 2004.
