MAKING A POINT OF PAYING IN ADVANCE
5 November 2009

Paying for bus fares is about to become a whole lot easier thanks to Plymouth Citybus joining forces with PayPoint to make Citybus tickets available through the local high street PayPoint network of retailers.

PayPoint is the UK’s leading branded retail network for the convenient local payment of household bills, mobile top-ups and now, bus tickets. Our Adult customers will be able to top up their 7, 28 or 90 day Freedom Cards at any PayPoint outlet across Plymouth and Saltash. In addition, all customers will be able to advance purchase the very popular DayRider ticket.

Peter Oliver, commercial manager at Plymouth Citybus, said: “Our customers frequently tell us that they want an easier and more convenient way to buy their tickets in advance of travel and we’ve identified PayPoint as the perfect answer. Under this new arrangement, customers will be able to buy their bus ticket while visiting the local newsagent, garage, supermarket or convenience store – many of which are open long hours and often seven days a week.

“Many customers already enjoy the convenience of paying utility bills, telephone charges, rents and council tax using PayPoint, so the facility to buy their bus ticket fits perfectly.

“Obtaining tickets in advance helps speed up boarding time at the bus stop, enabling us to improve reliability and punctuality, and it also removes the need for customers to carry lots of heavy cash.”

There are more than 130 PayPoint terminals across Plymouth and Saltash. Location maps can be found in the Citybus Travel shop on Exeter Street along with further travel information. Alternatively, visit its website on www.plymouthbus.co.uk or the PayPoint store locator on http://www.paypoint.co.uk/locator.aspx.”

Michelle Stanbrough, Transport Sector Manager at PayPoint, added: “We are delighted to be partnering with Plymouth Citybus so that bus users in the city are now able to ease their journeys by pre-purchasing their bus tickets in advance of travel, within more convenient locations, even while they do their shopping.”
